How to Safely Clean Blinds, Shades & Drapery

Cleaning

For detailed information about the care and cleaning of your blinds and shades, you should consult the instruction guide that came with your order. Below are some general guidelines for maintaining your window treatment product.

Wood and Faux Wood Blinds

Regularly dust lightly with a feather duster. For deeper cleaning, gently vacuum with the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner, or wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. For stained finishes, treat with lemon oil or another wood preservative.

Woven Woods and Roman Shades

Regularly dust lightly with a feather duster. For deeper cleaning, gently vacuum with the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner.

Roller Shades, Panel Tracks and Solar screens

Regularly dust lightly with a feather duster. For deeper cleaning, gently vacuum with the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner. For spot cleaning, use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and mild detergent. Blot gently and let dry completely. Avoid crushing or wrinkling the shades.

Cellular and Pleated Shades

Regularly dust lightly with a feather duster. For deeper cleaning, gently vacuum with the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner. If the shade becomes soiled on the fabric surface, we recommend that the shade be spot-cleaned using a soft cloth or sponge, a mild detergent and warm water. Immediately wipe the area with a clean, damp sponge (back and forth gently in the direction parallel to the pleats in the fabric) until the stains are removed. If necessary, the entire shade may be cleaned in this fashion. Pat with a clean, dry towel to remove excess water. Be careful not to crush or wrinkle the fabric. Frequent cleaning may remove fullness and body of the pleated fabric. Make sure shade is fully open and allow to air dry. Extra care should be used when cleaning blackout material.

Vertical Blinds

Regularly dust lightly with a feather duster. For deeper cleaning, gently vacuum with the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner. For spot cleaning, use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and mild detergent. Blot gently and let dry completely. Vanes only may be removed and immersed in water.

WARNING about the cleaning and care of all window treatments: Do not submerge. Do not use strong detergents or spot removers. Dry cleaning and ultrasonic cleaning on any window treatment is not recommended.
